Appeal to the President of South Sudan to end death penalty against children

February 14th, 2019

The Committee has learned with dismay from recent media and other reports that the Government of South Sudan has been executing persons who were below the age of 18 at the time of the commission of the crime, and that a number of children and lactating women are currently on the death row. Pending the veracity of the above allegations, the Committee has sent a Letter of Urgent appeal to the President of South Sudan, H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, to end the death penalty against children.
