About Special Rapporteurs

The African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child appoints ten Special Rapporteurs on thematic areas

The ACERWC, According to Rule 58 of its Revised Rules of Procedure, has appointed ten Members of the Committee to serve as Special Rapporteurs on thematic areas. The Thematic areas are:

  1. Violence against children;
  2. Children and Armed Conflict;
  3. Birth Registration, Name and Nationality;
  4. Child marriage and Other Harmful Practices;
  5. Child Participation;
  6. Children in Vulnerable Situations;
  7. Health, Welfare and Development;
  8. Children on the Move;
  9. Children in Conflict with the Law Parental Responsibilities and Child Responsibilities;
  10. Education;

The roles and responsibilities of the Rapporteurs includes among others; setting standards and developing strategies to better promote and protect children’s rights, conducting missions and undertaking various studies as well as Cooperating and engaging in dialogue with Member States, National human Rights Institutions, relevant intergovernmental organizations, international and regional mechanisms, UN Agencies and CSOs.
